There’s no reason to get bored on a stay in Hengelo. Visit one of the hip boutiques, go for a gastronomic experience or enjoy the arts and culture.

Modern range of shops

The modern city centre has a varied and wide range of shops. National chains stand side by side with many typical Hengelo high-quality shops, guaranteeing shopping pleasure for all types of shoppers. We recommend visiting the local market (every Wednesday and Saturday) on the central square in the inner city. In addition to its lively and modern city centre, Hengelo offers the retail park Plein Westermaat by the A1. This area has a tremendous (regional) appeal and houses several chains that are well worth your visit. Plein Westermaat can be accessed reached via the A1 or by public transport.

A lively offering of bars, restaurants and nightlife

There are plenty of cafés, restaurants and more to visit both during and after your shopping spree in Hengelo, all within walking distance. You’re always welcome to enjoy a bite to eat, a drink, or even have a little dance! In summer time, try the lively outdoor seating areas in the inner city. Or, if the weather isn’t ideal, walk into the many cafés and restaurants. During WinterWorld Twente, the whole of Hengelo gets in the Christmas mood with a Christmas market and a skating rink. Great fun for the passionate ice skaters among us! And for everybody else, there’s also a glühwein (mulled wine) bar.
