Stadsmuseum Almelo

This local history museum is located in the Rectorshuis (Rector's House) and the former Latin school behind it from 1634. It is a wonderful museum with a fascinating permanent exhibition about the history of the area.

In the centre of the bustling heart of the city of Almelo you will find an unmissable monument containing the living history of the fascinating city of Almelo.

The Stadsmuseum Almelo is looked after and maintained by the non-profit organization Stichting Museum for the local history of Almelo and established on January 8th 1975.

Behind Closed Doors.. Up until the end of 1986, the museum was kept on the upper floor of the Waaggebouw on the Market Square. From March 1987 the collection was moved into the Rectors House which at that time was also home to the Latin School. In addition the special expositions on display you have a unique chance to take a peek into the monument with a notable history.

Nosey through the varied rooms
Meander at your leisure through the halls and passageways of the Stadsmuseum and find yourself walking into history. The museum’s collection is divided into different rooms and expositions; the Handwork Rooms, the Textile room, the Almelo room, Tile Hall and Tool room. In what used to be the old Latin school you now find changing theme-displays. The Stadsmuseum is signposted from the centre.
