A bit daring, this headline. Oerend Hard is a song by the band Normaal. And they come from the Achterhoek. Tubbergen is thoroughly Twents. But a bit of teasing is something the folks from the Dutch province of Limburg can take. And you are asking for it when you organize a well-known motorcycle event.

Roaring hard in Tubbergen

Street circuit

Motorcycles used to tear around a street circuit in and around Tubbergen. Nowadays it is a lot quieter, with some two hundred sturdy old-timers from home and abroad making the town unsafe on Whit Sunday. All other days of the year, motorcycle enthusiasts have to make do with a monument of motorcycles on Tubbergen's only traffic circle.

Glass art

The village in northern Twente, just between Almelo and the German border, is also known for something completely different: glass art. There is a glass center in the Eeshof, the event Glasrijk is held every first weekend of October and the Basilica of Tubbergen has 35 special stained glass windows.

Rückriem

For art lovers, there is more to do in Tubbergen. Just outside town, on the Baasdam estate, granite works of art by German sculptor Ulrich Rückriem stand along a walking trail. Just enjoying the wooded surroundings is also allowed; no one will blame you for not immediately seeing art in the columns. But bet you'll take a moment to admire one of those huge columns anyway?

Schaepman

Dr. Schaepman, who doesn't know him? Neither did we, until we passed the Tubberg Es on our way from Almelo to Tubbergen. The five-meter-tall statue is not to be missed. The Tubberger native was very important in the nineteenth century. And someone like that deserves a statue, doesn't he. No idea what all the good man did. For that we have to go to the exhibition in the Tubberg town hall. But first we are going to enjoy oafishly in hospitable Tubbergen.

Cycling and hiking in Tubbergen

Once you hit the road, you'll never want to do anything else. Fortunately, we have 6000 km of unique walking routes and 2500 km of cycling routes waiting for you; that will keep you busy for a while. Whether you take a short route or a multi-day route, you will always be captivated by Twente's landscape. Walk, bike, mountain bike or ride through the scenic countryside and beautiful nature.
